1. Interestingly
enough, the 49ers invited players from a 45-mile radius to their local pro day
today, according to this
story. That's a pretty wide net and far exceeds what most teams were able
to get away with. Also, based on that story, there are only three players
confirmed for the workout: Cal QB Zach
Maynard, West Va. Wesleyan QB Nate
Montana and Stanford TE Zach Ertz,
who won't actually work out, just visit.
2. Meanwhile,here's
a list of the participants at Detroit's workout this morning. The story
mentions that last season's workout bore the Lions' fifth-round draftee (Albion'sChris Greenwood) as well as another
camp invitee. Presuming their numbers last year were as small as they are this
year (just 11 players attended today), the Lions must put quite a bit of time
into honing their invitation list. Do the teams with more limited lists
(Ravens, Browns) take these workouts more seriously? Time will tell.
Here's the rundown

3. Congratulations go
out to NCAA Assistant Director of Agent, Gambling and Amateurism Activities
Department Chance Miller, who has
accepted an executive-level position at the University of South Carolina. At
USC, Miller will play a major role in athletic compliance and work to build a
comprehensive athlete agent program for the Gamecocks, which has been no stranger
to NCAA investigations over the last 2-3 years.
We wish Miller and the
USC athletic program the best as those in Columbia work to build an efficient
and effective agent-player program as well as increasing education levels for
young student-athletes as they consider professional sports. |
